Downtown Las Vegas Hip Hop duo TNGMG (The New Generation Music Group) came onto The Social Media Show to discuss how music artists use social media, the history of their hip hop career and upcoming events they are involved in. The two sat down with host Asia Jade in studio at the Hank Greenspun School of Media and Journalism Studies located on the campus of UNLV.
Josepch “Anuda” Bryant and Ulysses Diaz go way back growing up together in Las Vegas. The two found they had a common interest in music simply by sitting around freestyling with each other. The two formed the group TNGMG after being on a separate music label together. The two realized they would always go through the “typical” dramas and politics many artists go through on record labels unless they started their own. From there The New Generation Music Group was born. Anuda explained the reason why they are the new generation and not the next is because they are here now in the moment, their time is now. He goes onto tell Miss Jade that one of the main things he wants their label to focus on is artist development because he feels it is an area a lot of record labels miss out on. Bryant went on to say record labels will tell you this is what sells instead of this is what your good at and here’s how we can improve upon it. Ulysses went on to discuss how he has dedicated himself to learning the music business teaching himself about music management, marketing and branding. He himself is a music artist but he has also stepped into the role of several business hats to get Anuda’s music to where it needed to be to get as much exposure as possible. Ulysses said he realized he had to get the business running self sufficiently before he could step into the studio and start recording his own musical material. Anuda has a LP coming out in January titled “The Lion and The Lamb.”
Downtown Las Vegas is credited by the duo for being a major influence in their musical movement. The duo mentions several music artists in the downtown area including CoCo Jenkins from RNR, Sabriel, Steven “DAWNR” Zeller, Joey Pero, Flerine “FLOW” Atienza, Spadoni and Mr. Grei to name a few. Anuda mentions he is collaborating with several of these artists on his upcoming LP and gives a big shout out to Fremont Studios for helping him put together his next music project.
When it came to Social Media, TNGMG credits says it’s been a huge part of building their brand. Ulysses described Social Media as the biggest “marketing monster” we have at our finger tips and it’s free. He said you are able to watch the trends, react to them and blend in with them. They both have studied what has worked, what hasn’t and have used that knowledge to expand and shape the TNGMG brand. Anuda continued the conversation by recognizing the importance of supporting others through Social Media not just TNGMG. Anuda and Ulysses support musicians, artists and people doing positive things downtown.
TNGMG has two events coming up. The first event is Anuda’s peformance at The Getty Fashion Show inside of Beauty Bar Thursday December 5th at 10 p.m.
After that, TNGMG’s charity division, TNG Cares is having a toy drive at the Gold Spike Saturday December 14th at 7 p.m.. Admission required is a toy donation or at least $10 at the door.
